I saw the programme - in alone all evening with no better offers, and
there weren't many of you sitting round moaning over a pint or talking
politics that night, so I wasn't going to sit there alone....
In essence, there was a fairly aggressive Russian sounding chap who
pursuaded 3 severe asthmatics to stay in a hotel with him for a week -
with QED cameras and their hospital consultant popped in now and then.
They sat around moaning over a pint - oh, no they didn't wrong thread -
they practised holding their breath - nothing more than that?
Well actually they were also put on high dose steroids initially -
wouldn't anyone feel better on that? No details about how and when the
steroids were reduced.
Anyway, they took it in turns to walk round the room holding their noses
(? breath) counting - up to 1min 50s I think.
One woman was sceptical from the start but converted as she began to
feel better.
It looked *good*
BUT (sorry Jel, this sentence wants to start with BUT) .....
* what part the steroids?
* rest and relaxation can improve asthma
* asthma is variable day by day
* 3 patients a valid trial?
* dangerously encouraging people to stop inhalers
* theory of causation wierd (inhalers cause asthma?)
AND (sorry Jel, this one too) ...
Well I could go on but then there would be nothing else for the other
*9* of you to say!
(must sort out my threads)
