The reason for the 'outcry' at the demise of Byte is that AFAIAK there
isn't any comparable alternative covering computing technology. However
as I suggested earlier, if you narrow that down to data communications
(networking etc.), "Data Communications" magazine *is* comparable. In
fact it was/is arguably the better choice if datacomms is your primary
interest.
