Exactly! As I understand it although Byte was extremely successful in
the sense that it became over the years *the* technical magazine of the
computer industry, it was less successful in a commercial sense.
Apparently it wasn't attracting sufficient advertising revenue for the
original owners (McGraw Hill?) which is why they sold it. What then does
the action of the new buyers tell you? If you were the buyer and you
intended to maintain the existing nature and quality of technical
content would you sack the entire editorial team and terminate all the
contracts with the regular columnists?

The only element of the magazine that is certain of resurfacing is the
title.
