The format of these EDIFACT files is remarkably simple, it may be worth
getting it shipped over on a floppy - indeed it could go as an e-mail
attachment.
Then the trouble is getting EMIS to believe it came by Racal - I can't
help you there.
THere is, as you now see, a great deal of sense to area networks, with
a terminal session connected to the lab and some provision to download
a whole file of results through it into a form where you can link them
to the patient narratives.
Hub and spoke is obviously the sensible way to proceed with networks
where most traffic is always going to be local - hopsital and
practices, practices and HA, doctors at home and practice, patients
within the practice area, and hardly any will be going from practices
to DoH or NHSE from practices.
The connection problems of getting 400 PCG/district networks connected
to NHS Net are vastly less than those of getting each general practice
connected individually, particularly if most NHS Net traffic goes
through existing HA gateways onto the city healthnets.
THat this has been opposed by the NHSE IMG is another indication if any
were needed that the chrinicle of mismanagement obfuscation and delay
is heading down the Wessex trail again.
NHS Net was stuffed yesterday (for e-mail anyway) as well as Racal
Healthlink - 100% failure of connectivitiy where simple cheap SSL and
encrypted e-mail over the internet would serve reliably.
Locally we have a situation where two NHS orgs, both connected to NHS
Net, find that they cannot rely upon a message being passed through NHS
Net between them.
Crazy, and being dealt with in the classic way by denying a problem
exists, while dismantling other working systems continues.
