Dear David,
For it to work everyone will need to be internet connected not just the
meagre 15% currently on line. We have written and will shortly be testing
some software called VoteWare. A slide show describing how it might work
in PCGs is in the library of our free intranet (www.mdintranet.org.uk).
The basic idea is that intranet passwords can be surrogates for electoral
identity. Information can be shared ahead of ballot day. Interactive
systems will allow the voter to display knowlege of issues or candidates
prior to voting. The degree of accuracy will weight votes. i.e. those who
bother to mug up on what they are voting on will get more say.
Candidates should be chosen for their managerial competance not their
politics (and especially not because of their desire for office.)
I appreciate these sort of concept requires a little imagination and
willingness to try something new. I just hope that as a profression we
could start working towards new ways of doing things. Any criticism or
even better constructive criticism would be much appreciated.
