Re: the recent government proposals to change the consultants merit
award scheme reported in the BMJ.
The gov. proposes dropping the consultant majority on the committee to a
minority, and 'rewarding outstanding commitment toachieving the goals of
the NHS, delivery of high quality patient care in hard pressed service
areas, a commitment to clinical governance, evidence based medicine and
external audit'(sic).
Does anyone feel that there should be a similar scheme in GP , where the
above factors seem to have more relevance, and may do something to
reverse the increasing loss of morale?
Not just for the financial aspect but the recognition factor of effort
beyond standard expectation which GPs have always just lumped onto their
everyday work?
Regards
George.
