What are you running at the moment?
The correct handling of the Read Code* would give the preferred term
first, "Depressed"
However, this is not a good code to use in Read 2 for a diagnosis, nor
for an examination finding, since it is in chapter 1 which is supposed
to be personal history terms.
However, in Read 3 the term can be included in a tree starting from
mental illness as well as in the tree starting from 1. history/symptoms
In practical terms there are a couple fo ways around the limitations in
Read:-
accept that you have to search on all the terms that people may have
used for
depression instead of picking an approved one
use code to query the choice of a significant code if it is not
preferred, and help
select another more prefferred term
fire the NHSCCC and CAMS, and add codes whenever we feel the need.
