Absolutely!
However, I am tempted to argue whether we do need a national
organisation responsible for IM&T policy as well as implementation.
One thing I learnt from the Internet is its unsurpassed ability to tap
into rich viens of talent and knowledge with such ease and panache.
One would argue that what made the Internet so is the fact it is not
'owned' by anybody. Even its supreme 'standards setting' body - the
W3C - makes 'requests for comment' rather than rules.
Charles Handy in 'The Age of Unreason' argues for the 'shamrock
organisation' and 'subsidiarity. The model of The Firm gives us the
opening notes to develop those concepts further into the world of
health care IM&T.
