This is from SEG (http://www.seg.co.uk) for information:
(5) Not ISDN news, but important Internet news which I
thought you might like to know about. From BT :
" BT Click is a new pay as you go service from BT offering you
the freedom and flexibility to access the internet without
subscription fees or commitments. Developed for both first
time users and experienced users, you simply pay for your
time on-line when you use BT Click. BT Click is currently
on trial and will be launched nationally in September. "
Rumours suggest a price of 1p per minute, plus local call rate.
It'll certainly upset many other ISPs, but more importantly
it could mean hell for Internet Spam because it will be too
easy to logon anonymously and send Spam - there will be no ISP
to complain to because BT won't know who you are ! At a time
when ISPs are being urged to clamp down on Spammers, BT are
making their life easier, it seems. Perhaps BT have a cunning
plan to stop this, but BEFORE the service is launched seems a
good time to warn people about this. Meanwhile, the members
of the Internet Service Providers Association have issued
an official complaint to Oftel about BT Click, claiming that
it is operating with a cross subsidy, which is
prohibited by Oftel rules.
