<<1. How long must we keep these patients before advising the Health
Authority that we wish to relinquish responsibility?>>
I had an idea that one day was enough but cannot quote you the regs.
<< who are fit to attend the surgery>>
same as for anyone else i suppose----you are not obliged to visit simply
because the home are stingy. But yes of course I understand the moral
blackmail having been subjected to it far too many times myself. I think
you could safely cover yourselves by
a. Protesting strongly in writing on each occasion this happens and don't
be afraid to use terms like moral blackmail. I would send copies to
whatever unit is responsible for inspection and registration and to the
home owners if they don't work there. Possibly also copies to the CHC but
make sure they are told clearly that patient care is sub-optimal in this
home.
b. Make FORMAL complaints to the inspection/registration unit and to the
owners.
c. Consider billing the home for transport and time for doctors obliged to
visit in lieu of taxis or whatever.
d. Consider contacting local press and radio with the story.
The home owners will not be too happy with bad publicity, questions from
the inspection unit or the CHC, hassle on the phone and maybe even a
solicitor's letter requesting payment for extra time and such involved in
visiting.
Best of luck
