Racal have failed to find a chief exec to head their telecoms division,
and have offered it for sale.
They sold the data communications division to Platinum Equity, a US
venture capital group for just $47.5m (of which they only get 12.5 up
front) and after this they plunged to a pretax loss of £207 m in the
year to March 98.
Racal as you will remember was running healthlink, the only functioning
network the NHS has for transferring data between GPs and Health
authorities; hospital labs etc.
The record of GP satisfaction frollowing takeovers of IT companies by
other IT companies is very clear, (extremely negative, to summarise it
briefly).
There may be trouble ahead.....
I don't care, of course, since the IoS links failed a while after
Reuters took over our system, and their efforts to restore it caused
damage to files leading to my banning them from logging on to our
system, but I am aware that some larger practices find it important to
keep their IoS links running.
Printing data directly onto GMS 4 forms is, BTW, quite easy.
