With a little imagination that is not very different to the present
system where we are told that no patient will go without necessary (by
whose criteria?) medication, we are allowed freedom to prescribe _but_
only so much money is available. Sort of 'Hobson's choice' or is that
'Dobson's'?
I don't have an answer for the practicalities of the situation, other
than we are one of the lower spending countries on health, but it does
raise the question of principles.
Reminds me of the old joke where a man asks a woman whether she would go
to bed with him for 10 pounds. After she slaps his face with horror he
offers her 1million pounds. She thinks, accepts and off they go,
slipping his Viagra out of his pocket. After the act he gives her 10
pounds. Indignantly she asks him what is going on and what does he take
her for. He replies that what she is has already been established, they
are now simply quibbling about the price.
