I have just heard over the grapevine that the local Council has passed an
application for someone to build (?modify an existing building, since the
word is that it can be operative by December) a private Emergency Room
facility in rural Surrey, to provide a service for those who otherwise
would go and queue at the A&E department at St Peter's, Chertsey, or the
Royal Surrey in Guildford.
Presumably this is a facility on the pattern of the US private emergency
facilities. (A friend of mine who moved to the US after being
golden-bowlered out of the Colonial Service ended up as medical director of
such a facility in Florida: it makes a packet for its invesor/owners -- and
for him.)
I wondered if this is happening in any other area in the Uk or if this is a
first straw in the wind.
