Ewan, we waited a couple of weeks.
NHSE have done, as far as anybody I can find can tell me, slightly less
than nothing (IE they have stoppe others getting on with even routine
development).
Is it open season on them yet?

I broadly agree with Midge's view. However, I do think it is worth
waiting for just a couple of weeks to see if NHS Executive announce
changes to NHSNet which enable it to play a different role in
networking strategy.
<big snip>
I hope NHSNet will be repositioned as an ISP for the NHS (Not a NHSNet
Intranet - which it cannot be) and will provide services using Internet
protocols and provide the most cost effective route to meeting local,
national and international connectivity requirements. It's worth
waiting a couple of weeks to see if all the work of recent months bears
fruit, if it doesn't then GP's should look to commercial ISPs and
NHSnet is dead.
I had previously said
"...
But I think connecting every outlet (formerly known as practices) of
the PCG by hardware networking running the technology of the internet
is a no lose move which we should be getting on with now...
- We have 100 something days to go...
- in any form it will be useful fro setting up and running the PCG,
indeed its payback time may have been reached before we start the
actual PCG going...
- if NHS Net is resurrected then the tech will transfer nicely to
that, and if it isn't then the solution can be left to run. ....."
