I wonder how many of my colleagues would be as enthusiastic as they appear
to be if they picked up their own bills even indirectly through inflated
premiums. And I would object vigorously if any policy of mine were
inflated to cover their hobby. Come to think of it, we ARE all picking up
their bills, through taxes and a diminution of the funds spent on real
hands-on patient health care.
Has any research been carried out into the true cost-effectiveness of the
time and other cash spent on IT research in GP - including time spent away
from patient care? If not, why not? There's some story about cutting
your coat according to the cloth. As the NHS pool is finite all excess
research takes funds away from care - and a decent payrise. Perhaps there
should be more discipline introduced.
