Boredom. at least 98% of smears are normal. CIN 1 can be difficult to
distinguish from normal so the technician who sees them at first may simply
have fallen asleep with tedium. Plus some labs are not good at following
national quality control standards-the lead pathologist is often the one at
fault.

Subject: Cervical screening
I would be fascinated to hear from anybody who can tell me why these
screening catastrophes always seem to occur in cervical cancer
screening.......and if there are any other areas of health which might be
similarly prone to clinical errors/differences.
