HMG have given estimates for NHS fraud. Drug abuse seems to be treated by
supplying the drugs for free on the NHS. (I always wonder why I never see
alcoholics treated with free booze. It's the last one that really gets up my
nose. Community pharmacy has for a long time been paid for the wrong job.
On being presented with a forged Rx the pharmacy would probably be paid for
dispensing it. Takes a couple of minutes. To phone the GP to confirm that it
is a forgery, to phone the police and several hours of form filling and
interviews, to phone the HA and more form filling. Payment zilch (not even
the original dispensing fee.) I'm surprised that anyone gets caught.
