Agreed.
The problem is that rationing and downsizing are the reflection of the
politicians' and academics' perception that we have reached some sort of
state of Harrisonian medical nirvana, which one or two extra EBM studies
should polish off completely; and that we shouldn't need any new medical or
pharmaceutical technology for at least a decade or so.
I often comment to patients that in 15 or 20 years we will be able to look
back and comment on both our arrogance and our naievity in 1998.
