Only if the patient has a past history of upper GI problems or known
intolerance of NSAID's; in this case a short course of 5 days suggests to
previous exposure to NSAID's (unless for gout) thus probably not required.
I would be more liberal with adjunctive prescribing in the elderly and when
there was a family history of peptic ulcer.
