The story I heard had Frank Dobson visiting the PPA, where he was shown
an immense room, into which bales of FP10s were brought, populated by
hordes of workers bent over data terminals, their fingers flying
ceaselessly.
"What," he said, "are they doing?"
It was explained to him that the bales of paper were prescriptions
which had been printed by computers throughout the country, and that
the workers were typing what was on them into another computer.
"Oh." He is rumoured to have said, in tones which might lead anyone to
interpolate the question of why one set of computers should comunicate
with another by letter.
Do we have any news of changes inthis antedeluvian activity?
