Don't have major and minor, but the above is one of many. If a piece
of software fails on the first test, there is not much point for me to
pursue it further, there is plenty of fish in the sea.
Here are the criteria in brief:
1. Ease of installation and configuration (works out of the box first
time)
2. Does what it says on the box (ie: send and receive messages in the
case of mailer)
3. Fulfils my own functionality specifications
4. Has pedigree and style
5. Value for money
6. Does not lock me with it forever (migratable)
7. No major hassle if I had to move to a different program
You might find the above would apply to acquiring a mail client or a
house or anything else in life ;-)
The above criteria gave me the freedom over the years to work
extensively with at least a dozen mail clients whilst maintaing the
integrity of my communication systems!
I could elaborate if you wish.
