Hmmm... this is a very negative view Ahmad. We have been running a very
successful locality commissioning group in North West Bristol, sharing
information from a variety of sources, including:
- AAH Meditel, EMIS, and VAMP systems being used by 17 of the 20
locality practices
- Health Authority systems
- Hospital systems
The GP/Provider Links and Health Authority links are also working well.
With the recent upgrade of MIQUEST as a reporting and data extraction
tool for AAH Meditel and EMIS systems (not yet available for VAMP) one
can extract exactly the information needed with associated assurance
that patient identifiable data is protected, if data is to leave the
practice.
There is also some work going on to try and quickly get record transfer
between GP systems. Lots happening.

There are lots of solutions.
The Primary Health Care Specialist Group is organising an exhibition and
conference at UMIST in Manchester on "Information needs for
commissioning" which is to be targetted particularly at practices,
health authorities and suppliers involved in the development of Primary
Care Groups. The conference is Thursday 9th July and Friday 10th July
1998. A date for your diaries I think!
I have lots of overlapping areas of interest here, so my current
positions are outlined below!
