PCGs should already be planning how they will purchase, distribute and
award CME points for use of items such as oxford clinical mentor.
There should be savings in lives and money as a result.
THere is an interface problem - clearly the interface to be desired is
one either through an existing clinical system to generic material
delivered via the internet protocols, or simply to a web browser, it is
tedious in the extreme to have to use half a dozen different interfaces
to look something up.
Providing the various elements as engines capable of responding to a
query from a generic web based lookup form would be a reasonable
approach, but depends upon a perviasive network for the PCG, and one
which at least effectively runs continuously and is fast.
Our local Telco wants to sell us ISDN, and although this is fast enough
for administration networking, and super for e-mail, and OK for most
web browsing, I do not see it as fast enough for a techno-neutral GP in
a consultation or even between patients.
T1 speed is required.
