A cautionary tale. The other day I was on my last case on a small minor
ops. list, involving only diathermy of a skin tag behind a patient's ear.
Whilst applying the heat, to my consternation I noted blue flames
licking round his scalp, he was unaware of this. In between slaps on the
head I asked him if he had any hairspray on, he denied this but said
he'd put aftershave on that morning but it wasn't his beard that was on
fire. The flames then spread to the paper towel under his head which
then serenely lifted into the air and fell to the floor showering my
treatment room in ash. I extinguished him without even a singe to his
forehead. Luckily he was my last patient if the day.
Sigh. Why do these things always happen to me?
