Northern Medical Specialist Group of The British Computer Society
Notice of AGM on Tuesday 8th September 1998 18:00 for 18:30
Safety-critical Systems in Medicine - will they change our way of thinking?
Felix Redmill
Software-based control is prevalent in health care, and safety depends on
it. Can we trust it and, if yes, how can we be sure of this in any given
case? International standards on safety now require decisions to be based on
an understanding of the risks involved, and this requires risk assessment.
What does this mean to our way of thinking? The talk will address these
issues.
Having spent more than 20 years in industry, Felix Redmill entered
consulting to offer independent advice and training in project and risk
management. He has been the Co-ordinator of the Safety-Critical Systems Club
since its inauguration in 1991.
