And that is the hub of the problem and the heart of the matter.
They shouldn't have to. And it is possible to have that set up talking
to different systems, both at the Practice end as well as the hospital
and HA ends.

Not true. 'Trident Beacon' will do that as well as connectivity between
disparate systems. You can even get centralised software distribution,
thus shielding the users from complex setups and configurations as well
as rapid and quality-assured installation and updates.
