As far as I know there is no way of easily interrogating different
systems for research or quality data from a single 'central' source.
However I do know that Exeter Systems have a set up which is in use by
several large HA's now, whereby there is a powerful server on site at the
HA, with ISDN lines out to many individual practices. ie all the practice
data etc is held on the HA server, and accessed by up to 40 individual
practices. This obviously means that doing research on data from many
practices would be much easier, as is regular back-up and maintainance of
the system as most of the important hardware is on one site.
Obviously, the 'outlying' practices have to be running the Exeter System
software on PC's running Exeter's GUI interface (ESP). There are systems
like this at Sunderland and Ealing HA's and others that I can't remember.
There has been alot of interest from other HA's as Exeter is the only
company offering this type of set-up.
Exeter was also the 1st system to be fully 'accredited' for connection
to the NHS net. (It may still be the only one-I'm not sure)
If you are interested, e-mail me personally on [log in to unmask]
and I'll get someone who knows all about this set-up to contact you.
