sorry to bring this subject up again but i have recently noticed a
number of my patients either post m.i. or with angina being recommended
pravastatin at 40mg daily by our local cardiologists. they say 'this is
evidence-based in that the evidence for it's plaque stabilisation effect
is only available at this dose'. therefore they seem to suggest that all
secondary prevention should be at this dose.
have i missed something recently or is this consultant garbage?
at this dose the cost is £46.00 per month, the population served by this
hospital around 500000. this is going to amount to a major extra spend.
can anyone enlighten me?
thanks
tony
