Probably a useful option for stable couples who really just want to
space their children a bit - ie for whom an unplanned pregnancy wouldn't
be a disaster.
A few months back, I was at a meeting of the Contraceptive Alliance and
seem to remember a representative of the manufacturers saying that, yes,
there had been a number of reported pregnancies among people using
Persona, but that on enquiry most were in people who admitted that they
had had unprotected sex when the gadget showed a "red light".
I suspect this is an inherent problem with rhythm methods - yes, they do
work quite well if used carefully, but it requires an extraordinary and
perhaps superhuman degree of will-power for a couple who are used to
having unprotected sex to stop doing so - especially as female libido
often peaks at ovulation.
So maybe the issue is not so much, does it work, as how well can a
particular couple use it?
