>Wrong purchase: shouldn't have gone for a Gateway in my opinion
I think you may have been unlucky. We own five Gateways, (a 486 DX2-66, P90,
P120, P166 MMX laptop and P2-333).
There have been occasional problems, but overall I have been very impressed
with the build quality, enclosed documentation and drivers, and level of
support (particularly via the Internet). We also own a Dell P2-266, about
which I would make similar comments, but their telephone support costs you
money (Gateway's is free). I learnt the hard way with our first (non-Vamp)
PC about the problems with smaller companies. The company went bust about 9
months after purchase, owing me a monitor upgrade, and leaving me to provide
all hardware and software support for the PC. It was an invaluable learning
experience, but I vowed I would only buy from companies that I knew to be
stable and who provided good ongoing software driver support, even if that
meant paying a bit more. You pays your money and takes your choice....
But I would happily buy another Gateway (or Dell) again.
