Here's a possibility. In Word 97 you can set up exception dictionaries
which prompt you to check the spelling of words that ordinarily would
pass by un-noticed.
It's unlikely, but I can re-create your problem by creating an
exception dictionary which contains the words "So" and "so".
Check the \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\proof folder
for files with the extension exc, usually Mssp2_en.exc. If any exist,
look at them and expunge the undesirable entries and re-save as text
files, or even delete the files.
Hope this helps (if it doesn't, then at least I have taught myself al
about the heady and exciting world of exception dictionaries.)
