Olanzapine is an excellent drug used mainly for resistant psychosis and
those with persistent negatives features starting long term hospital
patients on olanzapine has lead to sudden improvement and discharge from
long term beds at 150 pounds a day not a bad saving. I think your sarcasm is
miss directed at "psychs" they didn't invent the new atypical antipsychotis
but are under pressure to use them most local gp advisory groups have
discussed the issue. I guess its a bit like ACE inhibitors if we were
schizophrenic and good make informed choice we would all chose atypical. As
yet their is no evidence that they produce TD so in the USA they are first
line as everyone is worried about being sued for TD when there is an
alternative. Giving the seriousness of the disease and the lack of any real
progress until now our gp advisory group gave it the thumbs up
