I tell interested people that it really is a box with the rhythm method
and a free gadget. A sort of contraceptive tamagotchi. It may possibly
be no more effective than the rhythm method, and if that suits them, as
it does for some people, then fine, but I am very cynical about any
claims that is to be compared with hormonal contraception, or is in any
way "natural"
I caught Mark Whittaker on "You and Yours" on Radio 4 one day whilst
visiting the hordes, He was giving the Persona manufacturers a hard
time, saying "how could this be a contraceptive if people got pregnant
using it". I felt a bit sorry for PersonaCorp, as they didn't get the
chance to explain how some people wanted super effective contraception,
but some people just wanted to space out their families. There is of
course a market for fairly unreliable contraceptives, such as the
condom. I wish now I had phoned in...
On a similar note, was anyone listening the other day when the
previously mentioned Mark Whittaker was taking A&E depts to task for not
offering a 3am emergency contraception service. Sometimes I just have to
switch the radio off.

John
