I haven't been using my consulting room computer for the past few days.
Man! What peace and quiet!
I can actually see the patients' faces and look then staright in the
eye instead of fumbling for the nearest wretched Read code that would
be a poor approximation of what I want to say. Writing the script by
hand actually made me think more about what I am prescribing!
Andrew Herd writes in this month's 'Practice Computing' about the
'unfulfilled promise' or words to that effect.
Has GP computing delivered?
I mean, has it *actually* made our lives better, easier or richer?
Has it made a *material* difference to the standard of care we give our
patients?
Or is it more of a case of good doctors remaining good and bad ones
remaining bad?
Have we ever calculated how much cash we spent on the wretched things
over the years?
Does that money tally with derived benefit?
Have we ever undertaken a cost/benefit analysis?
Where is it all going to?
