didn't go to celebrate the half century but am just back from a workshop
on clinical governance in darlington
this was designed to discuss the latest consultation document: A FIRST
CLASS SERVICE
http://www.open.gov.uk/doh/newnhs/quality.htm
with presentations from philip leech dept of health and prof de
zwaneberg (or similiar), from newcastle
interesting quotes:
"draining the swamp instead of fighting the alligators................"
"if you're not part of the steamroller you're part of the
road.............."
"Get in the boat, sit down and we'll paddle.................."
"EBM = Education By Messiah................"
DON'T read too much into them out of context
MUCH play on the need to involve patients in PCG activities including
governance,
other quotes:
"perhaps we could measure the quality of care in General Practice by
asking patients what they think"
"The national performance frameworks will decide which services are best
provided in primary care"
"when GPs start preaching cost-effectiveness, as they will have to do, a
severe strain will be placed on the patients trust"
Overall, many fine words (some worrying, some dispiriting) but little
meat to back it up
Lacking were: clinical leadership, the know-how, appropriate
information, time/money, the right culture/attitudes (applies to
patients, and all clinicians)plus.....(i leave the rest to ahmad)
cheers
