I realise that this might be a bit late in the thread but I too own a
Gateway 266 with 64 MB RAM, used to get the same error messages too.
Chickened out of full reinstall of Win 95 and upgraded to '98 instead - so
far so good. Lost my video drivers, modem & sound drivers in the process
mind (so dig out your old CD-ROMs) ... but now my machine seems more stable
and definitely faster.
Worth a go??
