I am a non-GP lurker to this list and I was wondering if anybody
could answer a question for me-
Is there a difference between maximum waiting times for orthodontic
treatment on the NHS (as referred by a dentist) and hospital treatment
referred by a GP? A friend and her son (who is now 14) have just
waited about 2 years for a referral to an orthodontist only to be
told that he would have to wait a further 4 years for him to be
fitted with a brace. I thought that the Patient's Charter set a
limit of 2 years (or 18 months)- does this not apply to certain
treatments? He is dreading having to wait until he is 18 and I would
imagine that by this time the procedure would be much more difficult.
