Jerry Cornelius in ASCII
THE HYDE PARK HIATUS
Part two.
Jerry had encountered the von C phenomenon at least once before but
under conditions of such extreme energies and quantum disruption that he
had considered it an aberration, an event of such utter randomness that it
could safely be forgotten. What had happened here? He realised that von C
was studying him through gold-rimmed glasses.
"You seem surprised to see me, Herr Doktor? Haff you so quickly
forgotten our last meeting? When Professor Papadicalous succeeded in
creating an artificial black hole in ze Fourth Reich laboratories in Essen?
You defeated me then but I am reborn! I haff returned to the field of
battle! Haff you forgotten the quantum inseparability principle? Ve who
have touched in that violent maelstrom can never be separated. I am your
nemesis!"
And Jerry remembered, the whole awful mind-searing blood-curdling
awesome monstrosity of the crazy Nazi professor's mini-black hole.
Stabilised by electro-magnetic fields of such power that all of Greater
Europe was blacked out while the generators sucked power from the grid but
the period of stability was brief. Jerry moved in to explore at the
Schwartschild radius and found whole new worlds forming, coalescing,
collapsing, all in micro-seconds. The incredible mass of the construction
induced massive time-dilatation effects and Jerry was able to check out one
world resembling Earth, do what was necessary and pull out before the EM
generators blew and half of Essen vanished for good. von C had been a
pivotal figure and was one of a round dozen assassinations Jerry performed
before escaping.
And so, again. Jerry was suddenly weary of it all. Yet his duty was
clear; murder, mayhem, mass destruction and homoeroticism were mission
priorities. He grinned at von C and spoke for the first time.
"Nice to see you again, old chap. Perhaps we could share some of
that fine cognac?"
The other hid his surprise well and barked orders to the SAS men,
speaking in fine old hochDeutsch. Jerry thought that the Surrey accent
rather spoiled the effect. One of the goons muttered zu befehl in Geordie
and fetched a bottle of XX with another glass.
It was damned fine stuff and Jerry tossed it off in one swallow. He
accepted a refill before following von C out the door and down the corridor
to what was once the President's flat.
What surprises await Jerry inside the sacred places of 14 Princes Gate?
Will he persuade von C to hold a ballot on whatever it is he's planning?
Will there be ring-fenced funding for arming Risk's Renegades?
to be continued....
