I liked the prog too, but was surprised that the GP wanted money shifting from
hosp to provide support services for problem families. Surely this is really
SS problem? and secondly the evidence base for helping problem families with
'counselling' is poor.

Subject: Rationing
Dear all,
A very good programme has just finished on Channel 4 about rationing in the
NHS, based in Leicester. There were some interesting points raised by
various health professionals, and views expressed about a "Primary Care led
NHS" that will not be music to ministerial ears.
This is the first TV programme I've seen where a GP was freely seen to
espouse rationing as the only way forward, while managers were denying that
the "R" word is even part of the language. I didn't agree with her
willingness to be a scapegoat for the government, but I do admire her
courage for bringing the issues forward, as Ahmad has been doing all these
months.
Is there anybody else out there having second thoughts about the PCG's now
that the patients have been told that they will be there to *ration*
services, and tell people what they need but can't have?
John.
