A Canberra GP, who is member of the down-under equivalent of GP-UK,
developed Ca bowel at an early age. He had to have resection, of course. A
patient lent him an old laptop computer and the good doctor took some wires
to hospital with him.
He has been sitting up in his hospital bed corresponding with the GP list,
describing his condition and receiving encouragement from colleagues around
the nation. He has also used the web to read up about his disease. His
post-op analgesia is an epidural, so he is quite clear in the head.
So when choosing a hospital, remember it should not just have oxygen,
suction, nurse call, reading light etc at the bedside, but phone or internet
connection!
