Having asked the question I have answered it.
To insert an adress into a leter or other document in Word do the following;
>From a blank word document, choose Tools, Customize, Commands, Insert,
Address book (you have to scroll down a long way to find it, they are not in
alphabetical order)
Drag the icon onto any toolbar. Choose close and exit word. Restart it and
the address icon should be there.
If you have a shared folder for Outlook then any entry added to the contacts
folder will be insertable into any letter.
