Not for me, it isn't. I believe that dispensing doctors do a great job
and are in a position to do a, dare I say it, better job than (for reasons
they cannot help) are pharmacists. I also believe that DDs can do the job
more cost-effectively for the NHS than can pharmacists (See PPA Annual
Reports every year since reports began).
I do believe, however, that normal business practices should prevail in the
sense that when one business takes over a second the second should, at
least, be compensated. Was it not pharmacy which reneged on the Clothier
compensation arrangement, possibly because they took over too many
dispensing practices and could no longer afford it? Such large financial
losses affected the whole practice and the provision of other GM services.
Loophole cases, did not even fit into that arrangement. Chemists got
something for nothing. Sound business practice if you can get it. Better,
if the government legislates for it.
Dispensing doctors and potential dispensing doctors should join the Country
Doctors Association, the group with the greatest dispensing experience on
