I have used MIA for nearly 20 years----offices in Dublin, Belfast, Brighton
and Belfast again. Usually very good and helpful---particularly Dublin
and Belfast seemed to take approach that doctors were not too dependable
about renewing insurance so they did all they could to maintain cover,
remind me etc etc.
Then a few weeks ago--just after lightning struck my computer and I needed
to make a claim----the MIA centralised all claims in an office in Stevenage
(I think) and I had the bad luck to call during the first week. I rang
Belfast twice and they put me through without telling me so when I rang
back the Belfast people did not know the person I was looking for. I only
found out when the central office wrote to me about the claim a few days
later. Then you can wait a half-hour to get through some afternoons. I
gave up one day and just sent a fax which they ignored. Another day I left
a message on their ans machine (which they invite you to do) but they
ignored that too. I got one helpful man one day and he sorted out most of
my claim for me but I then had to ring again about another item and even
though I spoke directly (collapses in amazement) to another live person and
was promised she would sort it out I am still waiting ten days later.
I dealt directly with the Belfast office from 1989 to recently and their
service was at all times first class and an object lesson in how to deal
with customers. But now? Service from this central office is crap and I
am just waiting my cheque for my computer repair before I start
complaining.
