It is now official. GMSC is about to agree to prohibit any market town
from starting to dispense (PULSE, letters, w/e 20 June). John Chisholm says
"it is in line with government policies" "to solve the market town
problem". John, there is no "market town problem" for GPs. There is for
chemists but they freely agreed the regulations in 1983. And, I may have
been asleep, but doesn't GMSC represent GPs not chemists or government?.
The "loophole" which GMSC is taking the easier way (as usual) of solving
was created by incompetent redrafting of the regs byt the last government.
It is not for GMSC (or DDA Co) to give away the established, agreed rights
of any colleagues for nothing. Rather, GMSC should be putting their utmost
efforts into closing the loophole by negotiation with government not
chemists - so get on with it !! Uh-huh!
