We should try to put a brake on the multiplcation of proprietary
hypertext presentations - eg the Oxford Textbooks, Cochrane etc, and
look for a common mode of presentation, either by an API allowing a
single program (eg EMIS) to query all installed references, and
amalgamate the replies, or by providing them as html/xml.
Otherwise the desktop becomes horribly cluttered, and searching means
using a whole series of slightly different search engines.
Who is moving toward that?
