To return somewhat belatedly to the core of this thread.
Some years ago, my practice had a midwife who used to pray before
examining each patient. The consultations were, of course, private so
this was not generally known to everyone else. Her behaviour was
tolerated by those exposed to it for the 5 or 6 times they met her
during their antenatal care, and went unnoticed in the glow of the post
delivery euphoria.
Until one day, when her god was effusively thanked for the pregnancy
that was causing an untold number of personal and social problems to the
woman concerned, and views were publicly aired.
Sadly, the "devout Christian" could not understand that offence had been
caused, and was not tolerant of the other person's views, compared to
the many who had been tolerant of hers. She refused to moderate her
behaviour, despite polite yet firm requests from the practice and her
management. As our practice had been chosen for her last chance
attachment, she was promoted a large step sideways.
I support those who would keep the place where medicine is practised
free from the trappings of one religion, and those who practice medicine
with religious beliefs that do not colour their practice, nor offend
those whose beliefs differ.
No, Ahmad, don't let him nail things to the wall. Its a bad omen.
