This is the Durham HA list of drugs which should be either consultant only,
or shared care. It is about to be updated - there is a rather longer
document which it is part of.
1) Drugs that should remain under the total responsibility of a Consultant
Acitretin (Neotigason)
Clozapine (Clozapine)
Fertility treatments
Interferon beta
Isotretinoin (Roaccutane)
Donepezil (Aricept)
Drugs prescribed in conjunction with a clinical trial.
Drugs available only through a hospital pharmacy.
Drugs prescribed for an indication/condition not included in the
manufacturers' product licence**.
** unless the Consultant can fully justify its use in each individual case.
2) Drugs for which prescribing responsibility may be transferred from
Consultant to General Practitioner provided that the principles and
guidelines of transferred prescribing are adopted and guidelines are
available.
