Colin,
I've owned an MX-5 for just over 3 years or so now and I have to say that
it's been well worth any minor niggles. As a practice car, yes it is a bit
of a hassle getting in and out, particularly lifting your case over
the brake from the passenger seat (it would get stuck on the parcel shelf).
The boot will accommodate a nebuliser & smallish emergency case - just.
I had both types of MR2 before this, - all required great care in the icy
weather but if your partner can live with that tell him to buy the MX-5.
The steel wheels on my base 1.8i model were awful so I soon upgraded them to
some wider alloys which improved the handling a lot. If I was keeping it, I
would have maybe bought some winter tyres for the old steel rims. We've got
two small children now and it's just not practical enough (nursery trips) -
I'll miss it this summer though. Even the most mundane visits were
enjoyable with the top down - very slick mechanism can easily be done a
traffic lights etc.
Basically the car just makes you feel good, sure there are other more
practical cars but I just couldn't fancy any of the cabriolets on offer -
now those ARE girlie cars.......
John
PS he's not interested in a B.R.Green 94M is he?
