Dear Mike,
Please assert yourself! You're the clinical assistant, not slave. If you enjoy the job/need the money then compromise e.g. max 18 or 20 patients and tell the nurse/clerks and everyone + anyone else (in writing if you prefer) that you won't see anymore. If you don't like or need the post then give him notice. I bet few SHO's would stand for this. You are lowering your professional standards to work as if on a production line - no-one can make you do this against your will.
Assume you'll succeed, I'm sure you will.
Best wishes,
Anita

Subject: exploitation of clinical assistants
I regularly see over 30 follow up patients in Dermatology outpatients. This
tends to give me just enough time to rush in, assault the patient with
liquid nitrogen/topical steroid/methotrexate etc , rush out leaving a follow
up appointment slip on a torn up xray request form. How would you deal with
it? Gentle chat with consultant has not worked. his novel idea was to cut
down new patients (he sees them) from 12 to 10 so as to reduce my follow up
list. Can I have any resort against the trust if regularly kept beyond 3.5
hours. can I walk out at 3.5 hours leaving him to get on with it.Should I
just chuck my teddie out of the cot and leave.Should I massage his temporal
lobes with a cricket bat....
