Interesting and thoughtful remarks from someone I respect.

The Healthcare News Server, which was doing a nice job
of presenting original news content on the web, has gone quiet.
see:
http://www.healthcarenewsserver.com/stories/HCN1998051800001.shtml
The publisher wrote a thoughtful letter about what
they have learned from the experience, and included
these two thoughts:
>17. Building interactive communities on the Internet for
>health care executives won't work. They must be secretive
>and keep their thoughts to themselves in an increasingly
>competitive market. They are lurkers, not participants.
>18. Building interactive communities among physicians,
>nurses and allied health care professionals probably will
>be more successful in discussion groups and lists
>restricted to their peers than in public forums.
I would like to hear about the success/lack of success of
others in building interactive communities -- lists, BBSes,
etc. -- and if controlling access was important in building
(or failing to build) a successful community.
